jamb 2017/2018 to be optional PPT or CBT

NEWS FLASH!!!

Crucial and Important information from a close source confirms that the 2017/2018 Upcoming Jamb UTME examination will be optional.
What it means is that students will have the right or privilege to choose or select the mode of their examination be it Pencil and Paper Type [PPT] or Computer Based Test [CBT] during registration.
According to our source the reason was because of the complaints of students, teachers and parents based on the recently concluded 2016/2017 exams which made most students fail woefully especially students who are not computer literate.

Senate extends JAMB result’s validity to three years

THE Senate, yesterday, directed the Joint
Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, to begin to
extend the validity of its results to a period of three
years.
This was even as it ordered the board to immediately
stop its policy of re-assigning candidates to schools they
never applied to, saying such policy was contrary to the
act establishing the board.
To this end, results obtained from the board by
candidates seeking admission into universities are
expected to last for three years.
The red chamber, which order came following a motion
entitled: ”JAMB’s New Admission Policy, “ sponsored by
Senator Joshua Lidani, APC, Gombe South, which was
debated during plenary, also urged JAMB to consult
widely with Parents Teachers Association, ASUU and all
other stakeholders in the education sector with a view to
coming out with a friendlier holistic, comprehensive and
sustainable admissions policy.
It also directed its Committee on Education to enquire
into circumstances surrounding the JAMB policy,
including all allegations of favouritism and generally
review the power of JAMB vis-a-vis administration and
submit findings within one week.
Earlier, in his motion, Senator Lidani frowned at the
JAMB’s policy of posting candidates to schools, including
private universities whose fees, he noted, were beyond
the means of the candidates’ parents or guardians, saying
in some cases, candidate were posted to universities
located far away from their places of abode thus placing
additional financial burden on their parents.
Lidani expressed worry that although the Federal Ministry
of Education had since suspended the implementation of
this policy, JAMB was still going ahead with its
implementation, thus creating more hardship for parents
and uncertainty in the education sector.
He said he was concerned given that the policy runs
contrary to the letters and spirit of Section 5(1)(C) iii of
the JAMB Act, which according to him, requires that JAMB
should take into account preferences of the candidates in
their choices of schools and the subsequent confusion
surrounding the directive that only candidates whose
names were forwarded to the university by JAMB were
eligible for post-UTME screening and others would have
to go back to JAMB website to find out their new
institutions.
Senator Lidani expressed concern that since the policy
was announced, the board was faced with series of
massive protests by parents and candidates of and some
organizations like the Association of Tutorial School
Operators of Nigeria as well as other numerous
stakeholders.
He said JAMB, at its 2015 Combined Policy Meeting, held
on July 14, 2015, in Abuja, announced the adoption of a
policy whereby candidates of universities with surplus
applicants for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation
Examinations, UTME, were reassigned to other
universities with lower number of candidates than their
capacities.
While noting that JAMB was a board created by an Act of
the National Assembly in 1989 to administer a centralized
admission for universities, polytechnics and colleges of
education in Nigeria.
He further noted that by Section 5(1) (C) iii of the JAMB
Act 2004, the function of the board, among other things,
was the general control of the conduct of the
matriculation examinations for admission into all
universities, polytechnics and colleges of education and
also include the placement of suitable qualified
candidates in the tertiary institutions having taken into
account, the preferences expressed or otherwise
indicated by candidates for certain tertiary institutions
and courses.

How Phyno, Olamide and others made it to the top

Olamide and Phyno have had an incredible 2016 as far as their careers are concerned. We say this because the numbers say collectively they have some of the most played materials on mainstream radio today.

With only two months to the end of the year, both rappers have announced they are dropping albums and it goes without saying that we are having a massive yuletide as far as new music is concerned.

It will be an interesting one and we can’t wait.
But what’s even more interesting is the switch in Olamide and Phyno with both music stars embracing the more sought after pop genre.

With Olamide, this isn’t particularly new as we have seen in Bobo, Lagos Boys and Melo Melo. The man understands the market, their inclinations and everything about their yearnings – and he delivers just that in his pieces.

And it’s worked for him. And quite frankly, we love it to the full.
But there’s more flavor to love from where that came because Phyno appears to have been indoctrinated into the league. This league is what has most of our A-list artistes playing what’s been popularly referred to as Afro Pop and Afro beats in international tabloids and American radio shows.

I’ve forgiven those behind my forgery trial –ekweremadu

Ekweremadu

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, says he has forgiven those behind his arraignment for a crime he never “contemplated”.
Ekweremadu
Ekweremadu, who said the interest of the country was above his personal interest and feelings, urged those in positions of authority to adhere to their oaths of office to be just to all.
Ekweremadu said this in a statement he personally signed, which was sent to The PUNCH by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Uche Anichukwu, on Sunday.
The statement followed the withdrawal of charges of criminal conspiracy and forgery preferred against him; the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki; and two other former senior bureaucrats of the National Assembly.
The Deputy Senate President, who was later received in Enugu by a mammoth crowd of supporters and well-wishers, according to the statement, urged leaders to always put democracy and national interest above every other interest.
Ekweremadu said, “I clearly recall stating on that day (he was arraigned), my great comfort in the immortal words of late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe that history will vindicate the just.
“Time has indeed vindicated the just and it is victory for democracy. My trust in God, the court, and the overwhelming solidarity of the good people of Nigeria is justified.
“As a Christian, I have forgiven all those behind this for, ultimately, God is the driver of the destinies of men. I believe that Nigeria has to move on, but on the right path of justice and rule of law. Going forward, we must learn to be just to all in accordance with our oath of office.”
The Deputy Senate President called on those in government to “put politics behind and let us join hands in governance, especially now that our country is challenged on different fronts.”
“As leaders at this critical juncture of our history, we must work together in the best interest of our people,” Ekweremadu stressed

How To Prepare For University As A Fresher And All The Things You Will Need In School

www.jamienaija.com.ng

How To Prepare For University As A Fresher An All You Really Needed.
I want to write this post for all incoming new University's students (We called them freshers in UNILORIN). To be sincere with you, there are a whole lot things they don't tell you about University's life. I'm writing this because, I believed by the special grace of God, this is your year of admission. If you had already secured one, please accept my congratulatory message.

I decided to write this post because I was once like you when I first gained admission into Federal Polytechnic Zamfara State after my secondary school for diploma program and graduated in 2009. I again became a fresher when I got a direct entry admission into University of Ilorin. All the experience I gathered in these two institutions, put me in a better position to write this.

Are you ready to read? Ok let ride on

What Do You Need To Prepare For Your First Year In The University?

Honestly, there are whole lot of things you needed and you can't get them all at once. Though, there are some basic things you can't do without.
The basic ones are:
  1. Your Fees: This is the most important and that's why I put it above others. You must first of all make provision for your acceptance fee, school fees, hostel fee and all other association fees that may be required to complete your registration. I have seen students in the past who bought everything excessively from home, but could not pay school fees.

  2. Your Credentials: O'level result, State of origin certificate, Jamb result, pre-admission screening form, pre-admission screening result and any documents you know would be required
  3. Your Daily Items: I put it this way because I don't want this post to be extremely long. You need a traveling bag, school bag, nice dresses that you can afford, a computer, a phone, cooking equipment, books, very much food stuff, provisions and any other thing you use on a daily basis at home.

These are just the three common categories of  basic things I know you will need. Though, you can add more to it.

Let Talk Of Other Important Things
  1. Make Your Budget: This is the aspect many students do take for granted and they later got themselves to blame. Remember you are just going to school for the first time, a lot of expenses are awaiting you and your resources will surely not be enough to cater for them all.

Create a budgeting plan with your parents, that you can print out and pin up in your room. Identify what is coming in and going out every month for the semester. This will prevent you from coming to school and be running out of cash all time.
  2. Open A Bank Account: It's always very annoying to see University's students without an account number. Its so shameful. You should not be going up and down using your friends' bank account to receive money all time. Having your own account is secure. You can keep your money there and go for it whenever you needed it. See How to open a bank account on the internet within five minute.
  3. Learn How To Cook: So many students in university could not cook and lived on an expensive diet of calorific takeaways and ready-meals. An unhealthy diet reduces concentration levels and makes you feel sluggish. Though, am sure this will affect many guys who never stay at home to help in the kitchen. I once had a roommate during my diploma years, he could not even prepare indomine for himself to eat. He always drink garri or starve himself whenever am not in the mood to cook.

The best way to have you little resources enough for you in the University is to learn how to cook simple food. Don't go to school and spend all your money on expensive junk food.
  4. Find Friends And Course Mates: Before you resume school, make use of the available social media to connect with good people who has just been offered admission like you. Chat and talk with them and make friends as reasonable as possible.

When you got to school on your first day, connect with them so that you can run your movement as a fresher together. Don't be a loner who don't relate with people. Though, I strongly advise not to make bad friends and don't live a couple live in school in order not to ruin yourself from the first year.
The management of University of Ibadan has released the scores of candidates who participated in the 2016 admission screening exercise.

Candidates can access their scores by logging in to the Admission portal with your Jamb Registration number.

The SCORING SYSTEM used to determine candidates' score is stated below;

1. WAEC/NECO: A1(6), B2(5), B3(4), C4(3), C5(2), C6(1).

For the five relevant subjects the scores are added together to get X.

Score = (X/30) x 50 = O’level points (50)

2. JAMB/UTME: Jamb scores / 8 = Jamb points (50)

Add O’ level + Jamb points = Weighted Scores (100)

3. For 2 sittings

The first examination based on date is taken as the template for all candidates with two sittings. The deficiency from this template is picked from the second sitting but the points from the second sitting are divided by 2.

Note: Candidates with wrong subject combinations in either JAMB or O’level results were not scored where wrong, and will be denied admission either now or later. Candidates below 50 in weighted scores will NOT be admitted into University of Ibadan.
